Our Curriculum Intent
At Kirkburton CE First School we aim to provide our children with an engaging, challenging and exciting curriculum that equips our children to become responsible, resilient adults with high aspirations.
The school recognises many families require support, sign posting and care at different points in time and we intend to offer a supportive environment where all can flourish. Underpinned by our Christian values, our curriculum is designed to take account of the socio-economics of the area, develop our children as individuals and as members of our wider community.
Community involvement is an essential part of our curriculum as we celebrate local traditions, learn new skills enabling children to take an active role in enriching local events throughout the year.
We celebrate and welcome differences and embrace diversity. We encourage children to question and be curious and have a thirst for knowledge.
Through our curriculum we intend to:-
- build resilience, tolerance, self-belief
- develop independent learners and creative problem solvers
- develop enthusiasm for life and learning
- develop a love of reading for life not just for school
- develop an enquiring mind
- offer challenge to raise expectations and aspirations
- offer first hand learning experiences to broaden knowledge, skills and understanding
- support children’s physical, social /emotional mental health and well being
- develop deep respect for self and others to become responsible young adults
